I’m trying to clear my backlog of blog posts, so hopefully with the lull period at work, I’ll be able to have a clean blogging slate for 2014.

Mr Goh arranged a 3D2N trip to KL where we would stay with B & K and gorge ourselves silly on yummy food. We decided to coach there since it’s cheaper and takes around the same time as flying (travelling to airport and check in time inclusive). The ride up to KL was uneventful since I fall asleep really easily, and so I was snoozing the entire 5 hours. Upon reaching One Utama, we decided to go get our tummies filled up a little, before we went Thai Odyssey for a 90 min massage. By the way, if there’s one thing Singapore beat Malaysia, it would be Old Chang Kee curry puff. Ours is definitely better!!

It was close to B’s knock off time by the time the massage ended, so we plonked ourselves in front of Espresso Lab where B would meet us, tapping on their free wifi. LOL. Freshened up ourselves real quick at her place before heading out to Pantai Seafood for dinner. I was starving by then. Pantai Seafood has those tanks of fresh live seafood, similar to what some of our seafood restaurants here have.

I especially enjoyed the fried mantou, dipped into the crab gravy, and also that tofu with winter melon. Silky smooth tofu with sweet melon. And it wasn’t expensive too… all the dishes you see above, plus 1 Thai coconut, only came up to around RM180. If you were to have the exact same dishes in Singapore, I think it would set you back roughly S$90-S$100 maybe?

After dinner, we met up with K after his work dinner at Fat Spoon for desserts.

Salted gula melaka & nutella ice cream, cempedak fritters and passionfruit crisps. Out of the 4, I liked passionfruit crisps the most. The passionfruit was sour and tangy, to the point you would shudder, but it was mellowed out by the vanilla ice cream. Very moreish though we kept complaining about its sourness.

Back home, we were enchanted by the fur kids. Milo the cat was super manja, and B and I were amused by how taken Mr Goh was by Milo. He kept playing with Milo non-stop. Marley the pup was very adorable but cheeky. He tested waters by trying to bend the rules so many times, eg inching his way into the house, thinking we wouldn’t notice. It was hilarious!! Patches was very sweet and calm. Giving in to Marley so many times before she bellows out at him.

On my actual birthday, we started the feasting early in the day. It was nasi lemak at Village Park. I made a mistake of adding sotong to my nasi lemak, so the rice was soggy from the gravy. But I had a taste of dry rice from B’s plate and it was really good. Plus the ayam goreng was cooked to perfection, still moist and juicy.

Lunch was at Food Foundry. I was initially a little hesitant about lunching here because I read a few online reviews that only mille crepes are worth the trip to Food Foundry, but I’m glad we had lunch there because the food was GOOD. The pulled beef burger that K had, the duck confit spaghetti that B had, and the pan fried dory with cream pasta that I shared with Mr Goh. Everything was lip smacking good. Oh, and don’t get me started on the mille crepes! We ordered 3 flavors: salted caramel (my fav), earl grey lavender (Mr Goh’s fav) and berry lime coconut that I wanted to try. The mille crepes here are different from the one I tried from First Love. The layers are more distinct, less mushy, and a little chewy like how a french crepe should be like.

After non stop eating, we headed back home to rest our jaws and stomachs before starting the highlight of this trip: tapau fest. We had belacan wings, satay, maggi goreng, 2 kinds of bak kut teh, penang char koay teow, hokkien mee, and K’s poached salmon. We were stuffed by the time the fest ended and I’m really glad to have them share with food with me. In fact, I can’t thank them enough for carrying out my crazy idea with me!!

We laughed off some calories by watching EuroTrip “scusi… Buongiorno!” and some Simpsons before calling it a night.

Then, to end the trip, we went for dim sum breakfast before we took the coach home. Guess how much food I left KL with? As in tapau-ed, not in my belly lah!

  • 2 boxes of Homi curry puffs, 5 pieces each box
  • 2 boxes of Krispy Kreme original glazed donuts, 6 pieces each box
  • a box of Cadbury Roses chocolate (thanks B)
  • a pack of Cheezels (thanks B)
  • 2 boxes of Japanese chocolate biscuits that Mr Goh secretly bought for me and brought it to KL
  • a box of Chinese pastries, lo po baeng and kaya puff

Mr Goh paid for this trip, minus the seafood dinner and Fat Spoon desserts and most part of the tapau fest which the Boeys paid for us. And thanks to B for being the awesome planner and making sure things go to plan (I know right, we’re such obsessive planners).

Hmm… does this mean that I get another present from Mr Goh?? 😛
