I can’t remember how I got to know of Blu Kouzina, but I think it’s a little unknown gem residing in Bukit Timah. After uhming and hawing for very long, I finally made a reservation for 2 for Sunday lunch. Blu Kouzina was situated just next to Wine Culture along Upp Bukit Timah Road.
We were promptly greeted at the door and was led up to the 2nd level when I requested to have a table on level 2 (another reason for checking out the restaurant was because we wanted to do our pre-wed photoshoot here, and I wanted to see the place in person first).
The entire place was decked out in white and shades of blue, wooden furniture and cans of olive oil everywhere! Everyone was in high spirits and soon the place got full and filled with chatter and laughter. The place exuded the same atmosphere as if we were in sunny Santorini (note to self: must go there one day!)
Warm bread ($2.80, refillable) was plopped on our tables almost immediately after being seated, and we were offered a choice of tap, still or sparkling water. (Still & sparkling waters are chargeable). No picture of bread since it was quickly gobbled up by the carb monster.
**Please enjoy the bread with the olive oil, salt and pepper available at your table. It’s wonderful!!! But if you don’t want bread, be sure to tell them when they put it on your table without asking.
Seeing that we had difficulty deciding what to order, the friendly manager came over and assisted us. He recommended a salad and a main to share. Obviously we had to order the Greek salad $20.80 (with feta cheese on the side since I can’t eat any dairy at all). I enjoyed the salad very much (except for the pungent raw onions but that’s just me). The boy didn’t like the olives, so I had most of them.
After hearing that the mains are large enough to share, the boy decided he wanted a meat dish and so I chose the final outcome: Souvlaki me Pita $20.80. It is beef kalamaki wrapped with pita bread, with some fresh vegetables. The wraps were also served with freshly fried chips.
The warm, attentive service of the staff plus the casual atmosphere makes the dining experience enjoyable (we feel uncomfortable at fine dining places). The next time I return, I’ll definitely order the dip platter and also the baked eggplant or macaroni! And more of those yummy bread rolls!!
